Steph and Higy love food, beer and downtown Kitchener. They've been frequenting B@Museum since it before it was B. It's one of their favourite spots and not much has changed since Elliott came along. He's just past 8 months old now and he too loves going out downtown for beers. Here are some of my favourites from a very fun session (how can it not be when there's craft pints involved!)
Jeremy and Sara Jane invited me to their home in Kitchener for photos on a beautiful fall morning that felt a lot more like summer than it did fall. Their daughter Annalina was just over a week old at the time. Her older brother Adam is 2 and full of love for his little sis. We took photos in and around the home, doing lots of normal things, trying to get the story of a normal day with family into photos. I love how they came out :)
Last summer I had the privilege of photographing Geoff & Thea's wedding at Burning Kiln Winery. This year I was very thrilled to get the call to come photograph the newest member of the family - baby Jonah. These are a few highlights from our time together on a warm summer morning :)
Dave & Jenn have two beautiful daughters, Maddison and baby Berkeley. I was happy to join them for photos.
Maddie was a tad shy to start, but was soon absorbed in a favourite story...
We went for a walk along some trails near Jenn & Dave's home...
It's been nearly four years that I've been taking photos for the Watson Family. The very first time we did photos, Zoe was a newborn and Brad & Kristen had yet to move into their home in Central Frederick neighbourhood - a home and an area that have become near and dear over the years. It's been a stunning pleasure to see the family grow and grow up - Zoe, Hux and Eve are all adorable and amazing in their own way. Here are a few favourites from this time around :)

Eline & Mike + Owen and Charlie
I went for a walk in Victoria Park with Mike & Eline and their two boys. We spent most of our time around the island, on a day that was wonderfully sunny and just a bit cool. I was told Owen wasn't too fond of the camera, but he did great... check out that smile :)
Owen's younger brother Charlie...

A few weeks back I met up with Sarah & Byron and their two sons, Dylan and Blake, for some photos at their home in Etobicoke. The session was a gift from Sarah's sister and brother-in-law, Ali and Ty.
I had done Ali & Ty's wedding photos two summers past (and had met Byron and Sarah and Dylan that day. Blake, the youngest, wasn't yet on the scene). These are some highlights from the session.
This first one is one of my favourite photos this year. I love how the trees frame the tire and how the tire frames Dylan. I love the sunburst. And I generally just really like the feel of the photo... the summer, the joy, that sort of thing :)
This is Blake, Dylan's younger brother. He's a champ.

Photos at Steckle Heritage Farm in Kitchener
Steckle Heritage Farm is a special place - I can't say enough good about the place. They're an amazing education center, veggie grower and wedding/event venue. Ash worked there a few years back and arranged for us to stop by for some photos. Here's a few favourites :)
Sebastian thoroughly enjoyed being outside at the farm...
Seb's little bro, Grant...
In the orchard at Steckle, a wonderful place to be in September :)
Throughout the course of our walk around the farm, I would come to discover that Seb really, really, really likes apples. He's much happier with an apple than without an apple.

These photos were a surprise for Father's Day...
Ben and Becky didn't have up-to-date photos of their two kids, so Becky invited me out to their home in Ayr for photos one morning while Ben was at work. The idea was to give him some new photos of the kids for home and office...
This is Norah, right about a year old now
And Liam, just turned 4
We started off with bubbles...
and then strawberries... ah yah
everyone got their fair share...
and then we finished off with a homemade chocolate chip cookie (or two)

Photos with Baby Davis + The Weatherby Family
This was my second visit to the Weatherby home and like my last visit, their home was warm and happy. This one came just over a week after baby Davis arrived. Here he is, on a blanket that was Jenn's when she was a baby...
older sis Ada, prepping for sisterhood...

Sunny Morning Family Photos with the Brennermans
My time with the Brennerman family happened on a perfect spring morning. The day would turn hot and humid, but midmorning it was perfect... perfect enough for shortsleeves, sandboxes and babies in not many clothes at all.
The Brennermans have these awesome evergreens in the backyard that backdropped the photos so nicely... the sun was shining through in a way that felt like it could have been a weekend at the cottage
there was an ant on the sand castle...
Megan is a music teacher... couldn't help but get a piano photo in there
then, right at the very end of the session... we got some baby smiles :)

Photos at Home with the Lefler Family
I was happy to spend an afternoon at home with the Lefler Family last week. Theirs is a warm and welcoming space... I did my best to get it into the photos. Here are some of my favourites from the session...
the dogs made it into a few photos too...

Casual Photos with the Misener Family
I stopped in at the Misener family home (just outside Waterloo) a few weeks back for some casual family photos. The idea was to send them to relatives who live in Western Canada as a surprise... I loved the idea and told Katie and Mike that I'd keep everything under wraps until the appropriate time, so as not to spoil the surprise! So if you haven't seen me posting any of these yet that's why!
The Misener kids were both completely adorable in their own way - Owen with his tractors and laugh and Mer doing some of her first walking ever, punctuated with all kinds of perfect stares and giggles. Here are a few of my favourites from the session... enjoy!
Meredith, taking some of her first consecutive steps unassisted!

Casual Family Photography with the Mullers
Heidi & Dave are proud parents of Levi and Baby Evan, who arrived just recently (he's about 5 weeks old in the pics). The family graciously allowed me into their space for an afternoon of photos. These are some of my favourites...
Photos in the Park with the Hill Family
This was my second time out with the Hill Family, but the first with baby Jack. He brought a whole new level of cuteness to the family. Here are some favourites from the session...

A Fall Family Session with the Watson Family
I'm getting to know the Watsons quite well - I've had the privilege of photographing their family several times now. Seeing the kids grow and change has been an amazing experience. Our styles gel well. I like to photograph people doing what they like to do... and the Watsons are great at doing their own thing. (Having kids in piles of leaves is always a nice help!)
So without further ado, here are some highlights from Watson Fall Photo Day, 2014
Brad and Kristen celebrated 10 years married this summer...
the moment you realize why your coffee tastes like apple cider...
and then there's this one... one of my favourite shots this year I think. Brad is a big U2 fan - this is baby H with dad's phones, catching the latest from Bono and the gang...
the photo is a recreate. here's older sister Z two years ago, with the same headphones and a slightly more classic U2 album...

Family Photos in Stanley Park, Kitchener
A family of five, a sunny fall afternoon, and an hour walking through the park in Kitchener... enjoy these photos! Some of my favourite family photos this year...
A Casual Family Photo Session
I spent an afternoon with Baby Leo and his proud parents Matt and Meaghan at their home in Kitchener. They wanted to keep the photos very casual, which suited me just fine. I think the photos came out with a nice feel - happy, gentle, relaxed and fun. These are a few favourites.
The chubby cheeks made it into a lot of photos. I even got one full-on smile.
Sometimes awesome photos happen in the midst of trying to take a different photo (like trying to make the dog sit facing the right direction). I like making space for that to happen :)
Leo wore this awesome lion shirt. I tried to get him to roar at me, but he was so good the whole time - sleeping and giving me big stares. Then he roared at the end of the session.
a mini-lifestyle session with Maddie and Dave & Jenn... (and their pug Little Man)
I love informality... relaxed times, that sort of thing. I try to bring that vibe to my photo work, as much as I can. It's hard sometimes (weddings can be particularly busy), but on this holiday Monday, Dave & Jenn and Maddie (their 6 month old daughter) had all the time in the world. So we went slow, let Maddie do her thing and wound up with some pretty memorable shots.
Dave and Jenn included a few looks that reflect their lifestyle - Jenn's running shoes, Little Man, Dave's favourite board game and Maddie playing with some of their tennis gear. (i couldn't squeak the tennis shots, cute as they were, into the preview... sorry!). Adding Maddie to a pair of shoes or a table game somehow makes an instantly memorable photo... I love it.
The full session includes 80+ images... these are some of my favourites.
Then there was Little Man, the pug. He made it into so many shots that he almost generated enough material for his own session. Here are a few favourites featuring the (second) star of the show :)
and to settle a small disagreement on facebook... I believe this photo is a 'checkmate' face from Dave and an 'oh no!' from Maddie... but maybe you see it differently??
A Walk in Victoria Park with Ash, Matty and Sebastian
I love natural photos... you know, walking, exploring, playing, that sort of thing. When Matt and Ash asked me to do family photos with them and Seb (their one-year-old son), I was happy to hear that park exploration was the plan. The tulips were out at Vic Park in Kitchener and they made an amazing backdrop for the photos. Here's a sampling from the session...
check out Seb's Christmas photos from last December...
Family Photos with Jennie, Mike and twins Milo & Finn
Babies sleep a lot... not necessarily at the times you want them to, but they do sleep a lot. Parents of babies? Not nearly so much sleeping, so you need to nap when you can. I love this shot of Mike taking a few minutes while the boys did the same.
Mike and Jennie's twin boys (Milo and Finn) were early arriving to the world and had to spend some time at the NICU getting ready to come home. So they weren't quite newborn when I visited, but they were still tiny... around five-and-a-half pounds each at the time. They look so cute together in the photos.
Mike and Jennie were beaming the whole time
So was Zeus...
Milo & Finn and Mike & Jennie and I had a really fun time making these photos. I think they reflect the vibe that is Casa Boylan. I hope you all dig 'em.
It looks good both ways...
2014 will be a banner year here at ZJP. With nine wedding assignments already booked and lots of little ones set to arrive, there will be lots to do, lots to see. Stopping time with an image is a remarkable thing... throw in some momentous occasions, thrilling emotions and maybe some leaves or snow and there's going to be a lot of good fun coming up.
But last year was awesome too! So without further ado... here are some memorable photos from this past year. Enjoy!
This last one is a shot from a wedding I photographed at Langdon Hall in the late summer. They had lights on one of the apple trees in the orchard and we snuck out for a few quick photos after supper. This was the first frame I shot.
I felt the magic of it right away, as soon as I saw it. Hope you feel it too.
I headed out with Pam & Shawn and their three awesome kids for a walk in Waterloo Park...
These folks were a lot of fun to photograph - the kids were full of energy and bursting with giggles. We explored, climbed, tossed leaves and took some photos along the way.
I love the photos that came out of this shoot- all sorts of great shots I thought. But there's one photo in particular that completely blew me away. I think it's one of the best photos I've taken. What do you think?
But like I said, I loved this shoot. There were no shortage of great moments frozen forever by the click of a shutter. Here is a sampling of my favourites from the day!
I took a visit out to see Heidi, Dave and Levi at their family property...
... and it was a perfect fall day. The sun was out, the air was pleasant and the leaves were a mash of stunning reds and oranges. We took a walk around Dave's parents' place and got great photos all the way through - in the yard, in the forest and at the family cabin at the back of the property.
The little man was a champ the whole time! He gave the camera one great look after another.
Here's some of the best of the day:
