Wedding Styling isn't magic, though when it works it looks that way. Styling is a culmination of efforts. It's the combined work of florists, hair + makeup stylists, designers, models and creators of beautiful paper. The cool thing is... it all comes together in a photo. This shoot at Revival House in Stratford was one of the highlights of 2018 for me. The venue is a converted church and there's lots of very cool features to work with - stained glass, big lights, balconies. We photographed outside as well and it snowed during the shoot... big white snow flakes for a Black Swan shoot.
The photos start behind the scenes, then show the tablescape put together by Fresh Look Design (they're the masterminds behind this shoot). Then come the portraits:)
The ruby ring in the first photo is real. Ainsley Poirier is the lead designer/genius at Fresh Look... the ring is her grandma's:)

Cara + Brian
Sept 22 2018
Venue: The Slit Barn (Fresh Look Design handles booking + decor)
Floral: From the Potting Shed
I knew that this wedding was going to be one of my favourites of 2018. Brian and Cara and I took a trip to the beach for their engagement photos and I knew then that we'd get along just fine on wedding day. On wedding day, the skies were friendly and Slit Barn was looking gorgeous, as usual. Brian and Cara were beaming and I was happy to be in the mix.
Krystyna + Colin got married in Guelph at the historic Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate. The church is a special place for Krystyna's family (and a gorgeous place for photos). After the ceremony, we headed to The Ancaster Mill for wedding photos and the reception. The Mill is another historic venue with lots of great views. I'm pretty pumped with how the photos came out:)
Hayley + Dan got married at Steckle Heritage Farm on a breezy day in September. The wedding ceremony was in Steckle's historic orchard. Portraits were taken on the grounds at the farm (and at the hotel before the ceremony). This was a fun one to be part of... H+D were beaming all day and I love being around to catch that kind of love in pictures:)
Tim + Kathleen got married at The Walper Hotel in Downtown Kitchener. It was a real joy to spend the day with them :) We took photos at the hotel and at nearby Victoria Park.
Shannon + Dylan got married in Downtown Guelph, at the Basilica of Our Lady, a venue that is just magic. The art and the windows are really something else. After the ceremony we took photos at the church and at the covered bridge. Stellar parking maneuvers by the limo driver to get us to the bridge. Seriously stellar. Shannon + Dylan were beaming all day. These two really have it:)
David and Maria got married at The Slit Barn in Cambridge. The ceremony was planned for outdoors, but was moved into the barn due to rain. Then the rain let up. Everyone pitched in to help move the chairs back outside and everything went off as planned. It was exciting to see it all come together:) Fresh Look Design handled decor and was amazing at handling all the last minute changes. The photos are on site at Slit Barn and on the nearby trails.
Natalie + Jeff
Venue: Eastwood Fellowship Church and Waterloo Region Museum
Natalie and Jeff's wedding was a special one for me to photograph. Natalie's parents and my parents were good friends years ago when my family lived in Cambridge, so there were some familiar faces in the crowd on wedding day. I was happy to have the chance to say hello to some quality people that I hadn't seen in a very long time :)
But this day wasn't about the good old times, it was about the coming together of an amazing couple. Natalie and Jeff were ready to start on their own adventure and I was thrilled to be part of the celebration.
This shoot was so fun. I got to work with some fantastic people to showcase one of my favourite places in Waterloo Region - Steckle Heritage Farm. Steckle is a non-profit organization that does a lot of good in the community. And they have this amazing old barn. So amazing. And an apple orchard for outdoor ceremonies. And so many great places to take photos.
Melanie and Chad modeled for the shoot. They're a real life couple who got married a few months before the shoot. The smiles are real :)
This shoot features the talents of a number of good people.

So... here they are. Some of my favourites from the session. Enjoy :)
Terri and Steve got married in Guelph and then headed to Steckle Heritage Farm in Kitchener for wedding photos and the reception. We had time to walk the property slowly and enjoy a beautiful summer day. I am so so pleased with how these came out - you can feel the spark between these two :)
and then the antlers came out... i love this (especially the 'deer in the headlights') :)
Dori & Justin had a cozy winter wedding at Langdon Hall in Cambridge. The grounds were gorgeous - covered in a perfect blanket of white snow. We started with a first look and then a walk around the grounds. Afterwards family and friends joined for an intimate wedding and supper. Here's some of the day...
Neill & Jessie got married in downtown Kitchener, at The Walper Hotel. The Walper has just finished renovations and the new space is seriously slick. Fresh Look Design handled the decor and details and absolutely knocked it out of the park.
It was a breath of fresh air spending the day with these two. You can tell when they look at each other how special their relationship is to each of them. We took photos at the hotel and in the streets downtown. Here's some of the day...
the first look, in the Oak Room at the Walper...
Rene and Marty's wedding at Steckle Heritage Farm was pretty neat. Marty is a firefighter and he was able to get a vintage firetruck to bring out to the farm on wedding day. After the ceremony had finished, the newlyweds walked away with sirens going on the old firetruck. It was different but it was really something... I got shivers.
Thea & Geoff's wedding at Burning Kiln Winery was one I'll remember for a long time. There was a speech at the reception, by Thea's stepdad, that had nearly every eye in the building blinking tears. This was a truly unique and emotional moment. The silence was stunning.
The wedding ceremony was on the lawn in front of the vines on a hot summer day. Photos were taken around the grounds at Burning Kiln. The reception was held right in the heart of the winery, where the magic happens.
This was a special day. It was a privilege to be part of it.
Josh and Lisa got married in Cambridge, at a very cool venue along the river, just outside town. The Slit Barn is a restored stone barn that sits in a nature reserve called RARE. It's a beautiful spot. Fresh Look Design handled the decor and absolutely knocked it out of the park.
Wedding day was a perfect summer day. Lisa and Josh were beaming. I was really happy to be there for photos :)
Here's how it went...
It was a day that was all their own...
Grace and Michael got married in Stratford. Their wedding ceremony was at the beautiful Knox Presbyterian Church in downtown Stratford. Wedding party photos happened around the church and near the river that runs through town. Grace and the ladies got ready at the nearby Albert Street Inn.
Grace is a math major who really digs numbers. She's known among her friends for sporting a calculator watch. You can see it made an appearance in their engagement photos. Michael got her a newer, fancier watch for the wedding :)
Knox Presbyterian Church in Stratford, the ceremony location
The reception was at Revival House, a church turned restaurant in downtown Stratford. The food and service at this place was spot on.
Sarah and Sean got married at Toronto City Hall, in an intimate ceremony with family and close friends. It was perfect. Afterwards they invited a larger group to join them for a reception jam at the Balzac's Coffee shop near their condo. It was a neat space that was filled with great people. The walls echoed with their laughter. They cried and danced and cheered in celebration of those newly wed. I was so happy to be there to get the wedding into photos.
the ceremony, at Toronto City Hall...
at Balzac's Coffee...
before most of the party arrived, Sarah and Sean took a few minutes to make sure they had their speeches good to go, Sarah in relative peace, Sean with a few distractions to contend with...
then the food starting coming out...
Laura & Mark Get Married in Cambridge
Laura and Mark got married at St Clement's Catholic Church in Cambridge - a beautiful old church with spectacular afternoon light. It was a crisp and sunny fall day. I started off meeting Laura at her parents' home in Kitchener.

It was a Saturday in late September that felt like an early August evening. It was warm, sunny and fall was just starting to show in the leaves. Robin & Jaron got married at Grey Silo Golf in Waterloo. Here are some of my favourite photos from their wedding...

A Cottage Wedding on the Moon River in Bala
Heading to Bala in late August is such a good feeling. August is my favourite time of year and being in Muskoka is just the best. This particular weekend was as great as they come.
Dawson & Alanna asked me to come up and take photos at their wedding. It was held at a family cottage on the Moon River in Bala. What a great place for a wedding :)
The guys got ready at Dawson's place, right next door to his dad's cottage (where the festivities would be held). Not a bad view eh?
over at the other cottage...
the ceremony was held on the beach, backdropped by a perfect Muskoka day
the guests enjoyed a seriously amazing cocktail hour...
and Alanna and Dawson took a boat ride down to the Bala Falls - a beautiful local landmark with an uncertain and contentious future... (google 'Bala Falls' if you're curious)
after supper the sun set over the water... A&D had their first dance on the beach
when darkness settled on the Moon River, the fireworks came out. It was quite a show :)

Wedding Photos at The Arboretum and Blue Springs Golf Club
'Twas a gorgeous day in August. I made my way over to Guelph to take photos for Trevor and Jocelyn. Their parents live on the same street - the guys got ready on the south side and the girls on the north. This is the first look in the backyard...
After the first look the wedding party took a limo over to The Arboretum for photos. I love this place :)
The ceremony was at Blue Springs Golf Club - they've got this amazing little shaded area that Trevor & Jocelyn used for the ceremony. Tall trees and green all around :)
The reception, also at Blue Springs...

Amy & Graham get Married at the Family Farm
These are the highlights from Amy & Graham's wedding at Braeside - the family farm. I arrived early and had the pleasure of taking a quick tour around the farm with Amy's dad. He filled me in on the history of the place, which was great. It was nice to know some of the story.
Throughout the day, as people spoke of the farm and all the memories centered there, the picture I had formed of Braeside grew - I had a sense of the laughs and tears the walls had seen, the generations that had walked the earth there and swum in the cool, spring fed pond by the willow.
I knew by the end of the day that Amy and Graham's wedding was the next chapter in the history of Braeside. Here's how it went down.
before the guests arrived, Graham and Amy met for a first look under the big old willow by the pond...
'liquid courage' :-)
